“I spent nearly 25 years in professional services, working both internally with managers and externally with clients. So I have a great insight as to how large organisations work and what you need to do to get the career you want.

As a chartered accountant, I also have insight into finance and compliance professions in particular and how getting the right mix of technical skills and broader leadership competencies are key.”

What's your area of expertise?

I am an Executive Coach and facilitator, with a passion for seeing individuals flourish and grow in confidence. Helen has an appreciative approach to coaching, based on the belief that everyone has the ambition, intention and potential to grow professionally and personally, but sometimes just needs a bit of “unsticking”.

As a facilitator, I have nearly twenty years’ experience of both face-to-face and online training design and delivery in a wide range of subjects, with a focus on developing leadership skills with mid/senior-level managers through self-awareness and improving confidence, influence and impact.

In my previous role at PwC UK, I coached emerging leaders through the senior manager promotion process, and was a career coach and mentor for 17 years. I regularly facilitate small-group coaching sets as part of programmes developing senior finance professionals.

I am an accredited coach through the Academy of Executive Coaching and hold my Coaching Practitioners Diploma qualification. I am also a member of the International Coaching Federation and I am working towards my Associate Coach Credential. I am trained in MBTI (Step I) and TotalSDI (Strengths Deployment Inventory) psychometric tools.

What can our members expect from a working relationship with you?

I have a warm, curious and pragmatic with a goal of creating a safe space for my clients. I focus on helping clients to find clarity for themselves. I am also a firm believer in people setting objectives or intentions for any coaching or training programme they embark on, to give them a sense of direction. I am supportive, but am able to challenge clients when they need it and are ready for it, particularly through the use of insightful questions.

Which of our leadership principles resonates with you most right now, and why?

Abundance. Having been self-employed for nearly a year now, I know it can be difficult to build a business, being concerned about where the next income will come from and being worried about spending money on my business. I have been on the receiving end of abundant generosity from others and feel moved to do the same in return.

Which of our leadership principles do you generally struggle with the most, and why?

Also abundance as its not that natural to me! (I am an accountant after all!). But also courage. I am challenging myself to reach out to tell more people about Tide Risers and my own business and quieten down any fear of rejection.

Tell us about your experience with Tide Risers.

I took part in the Spring Intensive course in the height of lockdown. I found it really helpful to give me a rhythm and a sense of purpose at that difficult time, but more importantly it gave me chance to put a framework around a lot of self development I had done in the past that resided in various notebooks and Word documents. Gathering everything together and looking at themes that came up - and adding to that picture by doing some new exercises, really helped put everything together and answer the "so what" question.

I want to play a leadership role in Tide Risers for the same reason - having clarity, and bringing that to others is one of my core skills and reasons behind my work and the concept of Emprise and the Tide Risers curriculum does that beautifully. Not only that but I have met a fantastic group of women and unlike other networks I am part of, they really do support each other and "big each other up" and are always ready to help out with any queries you have. Which goes back to the "abundance" principle that resonates with me!
