A Moment in Nature: Walk Gently on Your Own Piece of Earth

In this guided meditation, I invite you to stand on some piece of ground--urban or rural, lawn or forest, wherever you are. Through a process of conscious noticing, I encourage you to reflect on your relationship to this one spot of land where you happen to find yourself. This meditation can be done in as little as ten minutes, or you can take your time with it, pausing along the way to extend the experience.

Heather McRae-Woolf, 2020 Seattle Tide Riser

Heather McRae-Woolf works with busy professionals to cultivate heart-centered connection to the natural world. She draws from the paganism of her Scotch-Irish ancestors, the ancient roots of her Jewish heritage, and the quiet contemplation of her Quaker upbringing.

Heather holds a B.A. from Yale University and an M.A. from The New School, but much of her education has come through more informal and experiential channels. She has worked as an early elementary teacher, writing tutor, yoga instructor, documentary filmmaker, encyclopedia editor, and communications consultant. From 2005 till 2015, Heather served as an administrator in urban K-12 education, working with New York and Detroit Public Schools. Then she moved to the tip of the Olympic Peninsula, where she began listening more closely to the messages of the land. For three years, she facilitated a social justice camp in rural Jefferson County, Washington.

She teaches mindfulness to teens in the local public schools. Heather currently shares her home with a partner, a 10-year-old child, a corn snake named Aurora, and a Madagascar hissing cockroach named Fig.
