About Miwa

Miwa brings more than twenty years of experience as a teacher, non-profit executive, and human capital partner to her work as an executive coach and talent consultant in the education and non-profit sectors. She is passionate about building relationships, cultivating community, and connecting leaders to their values and strengths.

Miwa began her career as an elementary school teacher in the DC Public Schools and Atlanta Public Schools and then spent fourteen years developing and leading teams at Teach For America. In her current work, she partners with a range of mission driven leaders and organizations to build more diverse and inclusive teams and to ensure that equity is the foundation of the work. Miwa holds an A.B. and Ed.M. from Harvard University and is a Certified Professional Diversity Coach through Coach Diversity Institute.

She lives in Richmond, VA with her husband and sons and can always be counted on for a great children’s book recommendation.

Marion and Miwa have been friends, colleagues, and thought partners for over 20 years. They share a commitment to building more equitable and inclusive communities in their work as coaches and consultants and in their experiences as moms and public school parents. After working together as Executive Directors and HR leaders at Teach For America, Marion and Miwa each started their own coaching and consulting practices in 2015. Inspired by their experiences designing and facilitating together last year, they decided to launch the Illuminate Collective this fall. As founders of Illuminate Collective, they work to ensure that social impact leaders and their organizations have the tools and support that they need to center equity, build community, and embrace learning and growth. And they stay rooted in abundance, community, and a strong belief that we are always better together.
