About Katie

Give us four words that describe you:

Optimistic, Extroverted, Industrious, Idealist

What was your first job?

My first job was as a babysitter -- I was a professional babysitter. I took a class at our local children’s hospital and carried my special bag with detailed babysitting instructions and CPR techniques on all my jobs for at least two years. I can remember studying those leaflets while the kids were sleeping!

What do you do now?

I help mission-driven organisations launch and scale programs that enable leaders to expand their perspectives and increase their impact. I’m fortunate be focused on this work in two areas I care deeply about: women’s leadership (with Tide Risers) and education leaders (through the Urban Schools Human Capital Academy). Both leaders are facing unprecedented challenges this year and it brings me a lot of joy to create community and space for them to focus on themselves.

What are you watching/reading now?

I’m watching Borgen on Netflix. So fascinating to see how a female leader in another country is portrayed and reminds me that female leadership doesn’t have to look one way. I’m reading a Skunk and the Badger with my son -- he just turned six and reading chapter books with him is my new favorite thing.

What inspires you?

Right now it's my kids. Their adaptability and joy during this unprecedented time is what keeps me going and gives me hope. [But that doesn’t mean I still wouldn’t like to have some babysitters back in my life!]

What is one intention you have for the next three months?

My intention is to grow the Tide Risers community. I am really excited about our new virtual model and opportunity it creates for us to bring in more women from more places -- the more diverse our community the better it is for all of us.
